Building the story that helps a charity
grow the funding it deserves

Sector: Non-Profit
Labs: Strategy Lab + Brand Lab + Production Lab

Humaine works with Mellon Educate on an ongoing pro bono basis across strategy, brand, and production, building the corporate communications infrastructure a South African education charity needs to grow funding. The result is a consistent corporate voice that carries both the scale of the organisation’s work and its human reality to the audiences that fund it. Humaine’s position is that organisations with genuine impact deserve strategic and creative capability without compromise.

Mellon Educate is a South African education charity with genuine impact and a story that deserved to be heard more clearly. As they expanded corporate fundraising and stakeholder engagement, the challenge wasn’t production value — it was coherence. They needed communications that could carry both the scale of their work and its human reality, in the same breath, to corporate audiences who needed to believe in both.

Humaine partnered with Mellon Educate on an ongoing pro bono basis across strategy, brand, and production. We developed a corporate stakeholder roadmap brochure to articulate long-term vision and funding priorities; refreshed presentation and pitch materials for consistency and professionalism; and supported fundraising storytelling connected to major donor engagement. On the ground during the Mellon Educate Blitz build programme, we captured content that showed the organisation’s operational scale and human impact in real time. The work spans the full range of what strategic partner should deliver: clarity, craft, and presence when it matters.

What we delivered

  • Stronger, more consistent corporate-facing communications across all stakeholder touchpoints
  • Presentation and fundraising collateral refreshed for credibility and impact
  • Enhanced storytelling that connects long-term vision with on-the-ground reality
  • Real-time production support delivered during the Blitz programme
  • Ongoing creative and strategic partnership built on trust, not transactions

How do you help a charity communicate its impact to corporate donors?

For Mellon Educate, the challenge was coherence rather than production value – the impact was real, but the communications weren’t carrying both the scale of the organisation’s work and its human reality in the same breath. Humaine developed a corporate stakeholder roadmap brochure, refreshed pitch and presentation materials, and captured on-the-ground content during the Mellon Educate Blitz build programme to give corporate audiences the evidence and the story together.

What communications does a non-profit need to grow corporate fundraising?

At minimum: a clear articulation of long-term vision and funding priorities, collateral that meets the credibility standard corporate audiences apply to investment decisions, and storytelling that connects operational scale with human impact. For Mellon Educate, Humaine delivered all three – a stakeholder roadmap brochure, refreshed presentation and pitch materials, and real-time content from programme activity – as part of an ongoing strategic partnership across strategy, brand, and production.

Do marketing agencies work pro bono with charities?

Humaine works with Mellon Educate, a South African education charity, on an ongoing pro bono basis across strategy, brand, and production. The engagement spans the full range of communications support – from corporate fundraising collateral and stakeholder brochures through to on-the-ground production during programme activity. Humaine’s position is that organisations with genuine impact and under-resourced communications functions are exactly where strategic and creative capability should be applied.

What does strategic brand work for a non-profit actually involve?

For Mellon Educate, it meant working across three disciplines simultaneously: strategy (defining the corporate stakeholder roadmap and funding narrative), brand (ensuring presentation and pitch materials reflected the organisation’s credibility and scale), and production (capturing real-time content during the Blitz build programme to show the work as it happened). The goal was communications that could function across major donor meetings, stakeholder events, and ongoing engagement – not a single campaign.

“Humaine brought genuine strategic thinking and real creative capability – and they showed up for us when it mattered.”
